Networking is the way to go with every thriving business. Word of mouth is crucial to extend your awareness and introduce your skills and office to other professionals as well as local vendors and Mom and Pop shops. A new series has popped up on HBO called the Gilded Age, an American version of Downton Abbey, even written and directed by Julian Fellows, same as the Abbey.

The theme of the first episode relates to networking as a pompous nouveau riche family attempts to break through the social barriers of old money New York. Regardless of your wealth, in 1882 New York City interlopers with new found wealth were not welcomed in the staid community that created society since the revolution. Old money and new, at least from this first episode, stayed clear lest people talk.

Getting back to networking, this new money couple built a huge mansion on Fifth avenue with their new railroad money and thought to host a gala event to introduce themselves within the community. Spoiler alert, they did not succeed as very few showed and even wealth didn’t bring them joy and happiness. In other words, sending invitations and being overly garish did not do the trick. So doctor, even you with your humble bank account or loaded to the gills, what would you do to attract new and maintain present business. Working your community takes more than a fancy invitation or throwing good money to marketeers. It takes skill to harness to enthusiasm of staff and self to project it to the community as well as patients that spread the chiropractic story.

So, have you designated a staff member as a community liaison, found time to gather useful data on nutrition, ergonomics, stress management and opportunities within your office. I suspect many of you have not created an e-mail address database of local professionals such as healthcare providers, attorneys, sports centers, corporate HR safety employees as well as civic and church officials. These advocates have influence and may be a resource for those needing care. Yes, it does take effort and time to gather data and contacts but once in place time will be minimal with substantial results. Besides sending timely chiropractic health and wellness oriented e-mails to these select groups do as well to your patients as I do weekly to over 2200 people.

No need to build a beautiful edifice to impress people. No need to hire a caterer or flower designer to stuff your office with everything unimportant to impress those you will probably not see. Better to do your homework as written above and with baby steps implement marketing through awareness and education. Stuff your office with people desiring to become patients, desiring to receive the power that an adjustment brings through new gained knowledge and awareness. Best to network.

To find one location that has other professionals eager to spread their good news, eager to introduce their service with likeminded folks and eager to share your story with others, look no further than your community Networking Groups. Do a Google search to find local chapters and if an active group, join in, be a part of a their structure and set in motion referrals and increased business. Communications is a powerful tool, everyone wins.

Below is a local Atlanta group. I asked a member of the group to send me a short promotion to share with you. If interested, give it a try. Here is the blurb:
