E-Mail Message this week: Professional Alliances

Last week I focused on Networking, the foundation of marketing. Marketing requires a service to promote and this leads to branding. Branding is most important as your specific focus within the world of healthcare is your brand. Mixing and matching chiropractic along with rehabilitation, nutrition and whatever your skills allow is the reason people search for you on Google, why patients continue as your strong referral base and why professionals seeking your services will call. This leads me to Professional Alliances

Creating professional alliances requires time, follow through as well as accountability with an office team effort. Over the years, I paid my community dues by offering numerous ergonomic and safety workshops to local corporations, provided CLE credit classes to attorneys, lectured to medical technician college students as well as various church programs tailored to various age and need based groups. I took this experience and created Powerpoint presentations offering them as CE credit classes for state conventions as well as a number for the Fernandez’s chiropractic consulting group. One of my most useful was how to create Professional Alliances.

When I taught a class at Life University, which literally was a How To Start a Successful Practice, I always introduced myself by shaking as many hands of the new students as I could prior to my first words and then introducing the class with this story

We are here in Marietta and there is a tornado that flies us away to Kansas like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. As I stand here, I have no idea what awaits me in Kansas but if this was real and I had to start a new chiropractic business from scratch this is what I would do. (Bear with me, the class was between 1996 and 1999 .. no Google and searching was with the Yellow Pages). So, I would get a copy of the Yellow Pages and look under attorneys .. Personal Injury Attorneys. Then I would look for local large churches and gather names of program directors, then municipal offices to provide clerical safety presentations, healthcare providers and emergency rooms to stimulate referrals not to mention allied health oriented facilities like gyms, health food stores, local sport teams etc etc etc. This is what I will share with you for the next few weeks, how to build and manage a practice.

Do you think these students paid attention, you bet. In fact this 7 am class was filled with both for credit students and many just sitting in

So, if your office is filled to the rafters with new and established patients the reality is no stream of new patients, the vine will wither and you will be back to square one. Marketing is a full time job whether consciously or subliminally you are always marketing to keep afloat and grow. If your practice is sustainable and you are pleased with it, you too can use a boost and those reading this that are getting by, pay heed and using baby steps consider marketing by creating alliances.

This may be a time when you have to spend to receive. Adding an additional staff member, a Community Liaison, with the proper training and tools will be money well spent as they meet and greet professional and corporate safety and human relations folks establishing alliances that only grow which in turn grows you practice with appreciative patients who in turn refer and the cycle of practice life continues uninterrupted. Does this make sense.

I haven’t time or space within this e-mail to provide all the details but I laid them out within my presentation.
