  E-mail Message This Week .. Will You Tell Them

 

During the heyday of covid, I passed a group of walkers taking time during their lunch break to walk off some pounds, yes, they were socially distanced. They started this program when folks began to entertain being outside rather than cooped up at home sheltering in place.  Week by week a few others joined in. Collectively, they encourage each other and during their walks talked off stress while providing useful advice for those in need.

 

I took a few minutes to join them and asked who organized it and how word had spread. Turns out, just prior to covid, a young physician came to their work and spoke on wellness and gave them a goal to lose weight, have their blood chemistry and weight checked as well as join a local gym as an avenue to get started. 

 

Let's move on from covid and how to implement wellness in your practice and commuity.

 

You know the drill, Wellness is big and Spring will soon arrive so people want to regain their previous weight, get in shape and get back into their Speedos or bikinis. If folks in your community are not on board it’s because you haven’t told them. I hope you’re not waiting for an energetic young physician to do your work, I hope you are prepared to be the Wellness expert in your town. Don’t worry about other chiropractors as competition, there are so many people driving by your office, there’s enough for all.

 

The message is loud and clear, people will take time to improve their lot if time spent has value and is easy to accomplish. But, they need instructions.  The gates of life have reopened and we can go back to our normal routine where in-office patient classes can be offered, if you haven't done so to this point. Can you express the value of chiropractic to sports enthusiasts, parents, teachers, clerical employees, material handlers, those recently in an auto injury, to lawyers, healthcare providers and every Jack and Jane you meet? Each person knows someone else and they may influence others.

 

Most folks belong to religious, fraternal and social groups interacting with other people and like the walkers support each other with advice and example, will you find a way to reach their extended group of family and friends? Consider how many people you, your staff and your chiropractically educated patients meet, there is no excuse if your office is not hopping with activity. Just like the Field of Dreams movie, “build it and they will come.”

 

The walkers during lunch began their campaign to regain health and have taken a giant step but they also need to take the next step by reducing their structural and neurological stress, will you tell them about chiropractic? They need to manage their physical stress and find venues to learn how to reduce tension both at work and home, will you provide ideas about adjusted life habits and ergonomics?  Statistically, they or someone they know will be involved in an auto accident, will you tell them about the dangers of whiplash and the lingering effects? Will you instruct them on managing their lifestyle reducing physical wear and tear?

 

They need to know, will you tell them
