E-mail message this week .. Cosmic AT&T
When I was a pup in chiropractic, graduating Life College in 1978, there were two weekend seminars, Parker and DE. Both had charismatic leaders, Jim Parker and Sid Williams who extended their visions into educational institutions, Parker in Texas and Life in Atlanta.

One image at a Parker seminar was a large poster. There were two large heads with a line connecting both. The concept was simple, educate your community and they will come, like Field of Dreams. I called it and possibly they called it Cosmic AT&T.

Concepting is real. Do the work, put in the time and potential patients will choose your office and existing patients will comply, others will follow and refer family and friends.

I'm sure you have experienced this, when 0ne day by just thinking of something or someone and shortly after they appear. Years ago, when birthday and reminder cards were regularly sent, the doctor looking and signing them thought about the patient and lo and behold many called. The best and cheapest marketing tool is concepting a new or returning patient and before long they will come. Concepting patients is not voodoo but real.

As mentioned above, in the movie Field of Dreams the famous phrase was “Build It and They Will Come.” A chiropractic student can only dream of their future but assure it by accumulating the building blocks of success. A new doctor can leap above the hurdles before them only when they have the stamina built through wit and determination and the established doctor ever so thirsty to maintain their status quo keeps the momentum by maintaining their status quo.

Doctor, we have a dilemma. We were given this obligation to reach and greet our community and offer our services as a healer, a compassionate listener able to provide an adjustment, to remove barriers to human expression and allow friends and neighbors their opportunity to heal and be well. A lofty goal for sure but if we don’t find a means to reach people and have them hear our chiropractic story what was it all for? There must be way without breaking the bank or being frustrated with another attempt to increase patient volume .. one way is cosmic AT&T.

How many of you send monthly reminder cards or birthday letters? Try this next time, take a few and look through each piece and visualize whose name belongs to the label, try to recall vividly their problem and wonder where they have been and mysteriously they may turn up sooner than later. This is cosmic AT&T or conceptualizing. There is no science behind this and for sure no guarantee for repetitive success but it will be uncanny the number of times it works. You also have an opportunity to write a short personal note on the envelope or card for extra impact.

Proactive doctors dedicate a few moments before the end of their busy day to remember a patient or two that have missed appointments or haven’t been in for a while. They may recall previous conversations or concerns and send either a handwritten letter or an e-mail to stimulate a conversation and hopeful return for necessary care. This personal approach may tip a bench warmer off their can and appreciate your concern.

Doctor, cosmic AT&T is still with us and without needing a smart phone or any phone at all. It takes a degree of belief that the person you think of needs your care, is waiting for their receiver, their heart and mind, to be open for your transmission. Begin today to gather some names, visualize their physical issue and your approach for their care and send them something and wait for the phone to ring. This applies to referrals, community outreach and any attempt to reach your goals. It starts with daily affirmations, meditation and short staff meetings. Visualization and conceptualizing is free and effective.

Cosmic AT&T is as real today as ever. Just send out those powerful purposeful signals.
