The Body Is Like a Football Team

Every week, football teams spar for their opportunity to challenge the winner within their division to reach their ultimate goal the Super Bowl.

Each week the game starts with the flip of a coin and a kickoff that begins to run down the clock. Player's skill, practice, sweat and luck set the mood toward the win. These individuals are like pieces on a chessboard as they are only one part of the whole team since individually they are useless.

The quarterback, running backs and receivers are as great as their offensive protective line. The quarterback can only sit on the sideline waiting for the opportunity to shine when their defense team stops the opponent.

The punter must kick long and hard and the field goal specialist can win or lose a game with one kick. In other words, individually they may be great but as a team they must work as a whole for the win.

How about our body? Excellent coordination between each moving part is crucial to survive and be well. Like football the body's defense teams challenge environmental opposition pushing yard by yard allowing our body to perform at peak performance. Over time our poor personal choices such as diet, physical and emotional stress and micro to macro traumas stifle forward movement creating chronic wellness issues.

A weak defensive line allows inflammation to set in with the end result chronic health and wellness issues stopping at your 50 yard line. Like a well oiled football team the defense team allows the offensive team to move beyond the 50 yard line toward the goal post. BUT, it needs the support of the coaches and team spirit. In other words, YOU!

We need to find our personal coach planning the best diet time to stretch and exercise, personal chill time to reduce stress, ergonomic practice while working.

Sounds a lot like our nervous system controlling and coordinating every body function.
