E-mail message this week .. Appreciation

It is often said we appreciate less and criticize more. This is especially true in the business model when times get tough and looking over your shoulder for answers become the norm. Like patient compliance  becoming an issue with more of them dropping out, new ones calling less, one staff crisis after another and finding it more difficult to manage your rudderless ship while bills keep piling higher. This is your wakeup call to get your act together and appreciate what you have, who has assisted you along the way and those you need to bolster to boost you even higher. No time to dwell on the negative instead concentrate on the possibility

If the doctor and staff read these e-mails, the first person to appreciate is each other. Teamwork comes from confidence in your work, your technical abilities and for each other. Nothing worse than asking three times to get something done or staff asking the doctor for assistance with tepid or little to no response. No teamwork here, just a void of appreciation. Instead of continuing on the road of resistance, concentrate on the blocks, the boulders in the way of your progress and remove the weeds before it overwhelms the flowers. Stop to tweak rather than overhaul and find quality time to reduce redundancy while fixing any problem before it gets out of hand.

Want to stop patients dropping out of care then tighten patient compliance. An educated patient is a compliant one, a referring one like the Pied Piper leading others to your door. How are you going about this? If you appreciate the gift you were given during your chiropractic graduation, the gift of touch and tell, the gift to remove neurological boulders from their path towards wellness, the gift to increase physical performance while reducing their physical and emotional stress with each adjustment why would you not appreciate the need for patient awareness and compliance. If you have no active program to educate each new and established patient, you will continue sailing with the wind rather than controlling the journey.

I can go on and on but suffice to say that if this e-mail rings true, you need to appreciate the message for sure. Start by taking a quiet moment and reflect and visualize your journey to today, are you satisfied with the status quo or are changes required? Is your staff knowledgeable and a reflection of you, if in a negative way look in the mirror there is the solution, if in a positive way there is always room to improve.

Our chiropractic community is littered with doctors never reaching their potential, doctors unable to break free from what they consider failure when they actually have a succeeded in what they have created. To right the ship, to begin having fun while helping others you must begin by appreciating what you have, appreciate those you depend on to make the day better and appreciate that each day is a new day a day for change

If this e-mail has sparked some interest then begin your journey to change. First, join both local and national associations and attend meetings and conventions. Take advantage of their resources especially any counseling, you never know unless you ask. Keep in touch with your college alumni association, attend homecomings which may also be a resource for practice assistance or alumni willing to share their success. Set aside funds to reach out to practice consultants whether by joining or just a weekend seminar. Bolster your technical prowess by attending seminars to add confidence in your work and at all cost, share your knowledge and newly gained confidence with your staff. If they are holding you back, then consider educating them or let them go.

Before you delete this message think who you need to appreciate, like your patients, your staff, your friends and family but most important yourself. I appreciate you and if you need some help turning things around or a jolt to the next galaxy, just let me know and I’ll do my best to help

I Appreciate You
