In our world today, there are many that fear for their safety and wellness and try to live their lives in peace and harmony. This should be the nature of things. You probably thought my message today would be about street crime, unruly people bothering their neighbors with little deterrence or retribution. Well you may be right but no, my message today is about the harmony that is innate, born within us and lost due to poor judgment and the limited health in our nations and worlds healthcare. Every day, wherever you look the safety and wellness of your family and friends is jeopardized by the leaders we have followed and the teaching that they inherited by those before them

My first day in chiropractic school was eye opening. The teacher asked every student to stand, introduce themselves and share with the class why they choose chiropractic as a career. Mind you, this was in the mid 70s when our profession was not as noticeable as today finding every student with a personal story how chiropractic changed their lives, made them whole and achieved wellness far better than the medics had tried before. Not one jumped into our wild profession to be rich or even thought it was a means to it. This was our first day, the day that I personally switch my concept of Sickness and Disease to Health and Wellness. It was truly a revelation and now after forty four years of practice still active and rearing each day to help others with my humble adjustments, it is still the mantra I speak each day

Yes, we live in a troubled world but made more so with the aberrant function of our body. Poor food choices, poor ergonomics at work, poor structural awareness in sports not to mention injuries and chronic stress. These all add insult to our nervous system made more so with subtle but devastating subluxations and chronic untimely wear and tear.

I took the chiropractic philosophy to heart. Many chiropractic schools, maybe even you, pooh pooh chiropractic philosophical thoughts as gibberish but without it, I was just a glorified therapist crunching bones with a twist and a pop here and there and stimulating their body to make them feel better. Nothing wrong with that and you can make a damn good living this way, but I wanted more and I wanted a purpose.

I write this to have you think of your first day on campus and what motivated you go against the current accepting the crumbs that insurance pays or having this finagle your way to build and maintain a successful office.

How are you part of the wellness puzzle and a part of the solution and what role are you playing within your community? Is your voice strong enough to be heard by those in need and is your message a message of hope towards Health and Wellness rather than Sickness and Disease?

Yes people fear for their safety and wellness but as a chiropractor, once you get your hands on them, educate them and nurture them through the quagmire that is healthcare today, the changes you can make is profound. Just ask any veteran chiropractor that adjusts for the health of it and spreads the chiropractic story without doubt.
