E-mail message this week .. Never Give Up

It bothers me when I see or hear of people giving up because a situation looks hopeless. As chiropractors, we face patients ready to stop treatment because they haven’t responded as quickly as they like. Same if you place them on a nutritional path and they stop their program because they still exhibit symptoms. It’s frustrating to talk truth and make sense while people can’t or won’t hear you with the goal line only yards away.

If you are a basketball fan you literally witnessed a last second Cleveland win during the final game against Golden State. Ten seconds remained with three then four points separating a win or loss. Both teams didn’t give up with their dedicated fans hanging in there to the end.

As doctors, we have circumstances when a patient seems ambivalent and your report and treatment plan seems hopeless since they are not on the same page as your concern. But you conjure up the energy to state your case and have that patient agree to follow through with your recommendations and with some extra follow through they comply and receive the result you both hope to achieve.  How many of your patients fit this bill and how many have you salvaged?  Of course, some patients don’t follow our lead and even with the best attempts they drop out or are perpetually negative with each office visit but this should be the exception rather than the rule. The best doctor finds that a salvage job is rare while most of their patients agree to a structure treatment plan followed by staff who believe their work has meaning and results expected with skill provided across the board.   

Sometimes it takes some extra work, just never give up
