E-mail Message This Week .. Rungs Up The Ladder of Success

If you left the cradle of chiropractic college well intended and ready to forge forward expecting a room full of referring patients and a waiting list practice, I hope your expectations came true. But for most of us, it was a slow and methodical climb up the ladder of success. Each reachable rung was the foundation for the other, each supported those below and when close to the top you remembered what steps brought you there. Sounds great but, Doctor, have you missed a step or two?

I marvel at the success of some doctors, usually well coached or mentored following scrips or just use sound business sense. They may work solo or as a group with a strong teachable staff and keep momentum going tweaking along the way with goals met each day. There is no secret of success just a commitment to follow through, pierce through your comfort zone and work through your purpose one step at a time

For instance, when was the last time you asked a patient for a referral such as their spouse, family, friend, fellow worker, church member or within their extensive social circle? Once a patient shows signs of improvement and they acknowledge it, it is time to agree, marvel at their progress and subtlety ask who they know that would also benefit with chiropractic care and go through the list above as well as some common symptoms that bring folks to our door. Obviously, timing is crucial and a caring tone rules the roost and will be seen as a gesture of good will not a pleading for help

Also, when was the last time you had a serious staff meeting, even between you and one CA or a group of them. Was there an outlined agenda or did it turn out to be a gripe session? Was every member prepared to provide positive feedback with solutions or were they too timid to add to the success kitty. Were you in a mentoring mode, providing guidance or were you bitchy, critical and accusatory? The first impression of your office is the front desk CA, their phone etiquette. It’s difficult to make a first impression a second time around. Since your staff is a reflection of you, how reflective was it, think you need to train them some more or move them elsewhere?

I can go one forever with my humble few words but hopefully you get the drift. Tighten some areas of practice management while relaxing others. Commit to excellence and expect no less from others and be sure to include your patients and community in your success. They also want to be part of health and wellness and there is no better place than your office, just be sure it runs as a fine tuned violin where everyone feels they want to refer and happily watch it grow
