E-mail message this week .. Yo Yo Diet

You may wonder what on and off again diets have to do with Chiropractic. Well .. more than likely you have been on this diet for all of your chiropractic career and didn't know it. First are the thoughts and the anticipation of losing some hefty pounds and a working plan to lose it. Exercise more .. count calories .. alter your daily living habits so temptation is kept to a minimum. As you find more and more room while zipping up your pants or skirt and the gaze in the mirror finds a little less of you .. you begin to realize that with planning and follow through it finally has paid off. You are beginning to reach your goals. But .. temptation in the form of a Krispy Kreme .. an extra bagel .. a delicious cake with the cookies too and a slip here and a slide there and voila .. almost overnight it's back to square one. Life still carries on and this act of frustration is repeated time and time again.

How has your practice growth been? Are your practice statistics? Is there more and more room for patients or are you already bulging at the seams? A healthy chiropractic practice uses a reverse yo yo diet. We crave bulge. We want excess. We need calories. Our goal is creating a brand with controlled growth with controlled patient and practice management that grows exponentially due to referrals and patients returning for their desired supportive care. Our profits grow due to creative diversity of services and positive staff oriented practice routine. Our marketing programs are stimulated by cooperation of our patients and community and we are relentless. We take no prisoners in the battle to win the minds and hearts of our community. This is especially true when our adversary is ignorance and our neighbors languish in Sickness and Disease while we have some answers towards Health and Wellness. This concept escapes the average citizen that is bombarded with pharmaceutical advertising and medical soap operas. Our diet must consist of calories for the mind and substance of thought for the heart. If we relent and fall prey to complacency and frustration of effort we both lose .. we and the community. We cannot afford to slip and slide.

There is an answer to both the human and practice diet and a way to avoid the yo yo frustrations of the past. It is simply a check and balance. The average person should never be accountable to themselves and be trusted to follow through .. it is a rare person that can. We need others to check our deeds and reward us with confirmation or dock us if need be. We must have a strong team behind each goal helping us up the next rung and assisting with every action step. We need a group effort and you and I need the support of others to achieve our personal and collective goals. Every chiropractor should be a member of their state and national association. The expense is necessary to lobby and reach a consensus of will. Every state should organize quarterly district meetings to help interested members with technical .. practice management and public relations ideas .. not just an old boys and gals dinner.  We must be proactive to help us all grow if we want to avoid the yo yo effect of professional growth.

If you need help don't be embarrassed to ask but be committed to change and react. If you cannot afford to fly to seminars or pay for the consultant but have a desire to take the next step then e-mail me and we'll try to work it out: joel3639@aol.com
