So You Think You Can Be Successful

As an avid fan of the TV show, So You Think You Can Dance, I’m amazed how the remaining dancers continue to perform so well. Notwithstanding their weekly emotional stress and physical pain they still manage to perform and get better each week.

These young dancers enjoy the dance and the challenge. They work the angles and fight through pain and with the assistance of choreographers and dance partners they meet their goal and perform their best. If they choose to slack off they risk fading away. The stakes are very high for themselves and their partners.

When was the last time you came to the office Monday morning energetic with a game plan for a successful week.  Enthusiastic to see new referred patients, a plan to reactivate former ones and even reaching out to the community with networking piercing through your comfort zone to achieve your goals?

How about your extended team, your staff? Are they educated enough to support your goals or are they unaware of their role to reach and surpass them? Consider also your special patients, those that appreciate the value of your work, have the desire to tell others but just need the words to your Chiropractic song.

Friends, your office should be well choreographed just like the dancers. Nothing should be at random but planned and practiced with practice sessions at staff meetings to assure the final outcome ..  all winners. Acknowledge your patients when they improve, add homework to their care such as stretches, ergonomic advice and nutritional counseling. Prompt them to share this with others and watch your practice grow.

The stakes are doubly high for we chiropractors. Our stage is not going through the airways each week but through the earwaves from patient to patient. If we do not focus on proper patient management, we will lose a step and trip up any momentum we created visit by visit. Not only will our revenue stream trickle rather than pour but we fail to assist our community with increased physical performance and wellness.

Our staff continually need education and encouragement or they may hold us back and be clueless of our goals. Too often doctors are held hostage by their staff and afraid to bid them adieu. Rather than showing them the door, look first in the mirror and who you see is where the problem usually originates. We usually train staff poorly, especially with practice goals, action steps and accountability. May be wise to get our act together as well.

Years ago, I presented many practice management classes one was titled Rungs up the Ladder of Success. It was meant to stimulate thoughts of success which is an unrelenting process and if not careful unforgiving. The same ladder that helped you reach the top also helps you on the way down. A successful office works as a team. Is Yours?

Now Get Going

Note: If you want a copy of my Rungs Up the Ladder of Success Powerpoint presentation, just reply back and I will upload it to you for a mere $60. After reviewing it, have a staff meeting and present it to them with a group discussion. If interested, reply to me and I'll provide instructions
