Demographic Component .. Labor

Last week I went over the residential component, which if cultivated, can be a boon to your practice and bottom line. You'll find tons of potential patients and with a bit of effort you will plant perennial seeds of interest finding an on-going bountiful harvest of new patients. Today, I will focus on Labor another avenue to travel for potential patients.

First, be aware that many within the labor pool are men and usually in denial when it comes to their health. So, reaching them and having them realize your message will be a bit more difficult. Be armed with data concerning wear and tear, work related injuries and how it affects their personal and social habits. Also, be aware that if invited to give an ergonomic or safety class by an employer, not to concentrate on work related injuries as half their staff after you leave may apply for worker's comp, so bob and weave around the topic. Be armed with worker's compensation costs to employers

I understand many of you will not spend the energy to meet and greet but there are fewer demanding ways to reach your community, although a little work is needed. If your public relations time is limited or marketing is not your forte, then your choice would be to hand the reins to a staff member or hire a community coordinator to make it happen. So, if you wish to see more patients then marketing is necessary and areas to explore is my topic of the day

Whether you or a staff member does it, someone needs to drive around your work community and note where labor intense facilities are. It could be a warehouse, a Costco, tire store, an industrial park, post office or a related facility where workers use forklifts, lifting and twist or on their feet most of their workday. Be prepared with data found with a Google search of OSHA labor statistics, repetitive work injuries, dangers of and the like. Note the data so you can provide some credibility when providing your talk or even giving handouts.

Once you compile this information, you can tailor your target by either creating handouts or a Powerpoint presentation. These will include images of their work conditions, best and worst lifting methods, data you compiled of physical risks and solutions including stretching, exercise and your chiropractic care.

Over the years, I must have given over 100 presentations and like the Pied Piper, if you make sense and give them the incentive to follow you for an evaluation, your practice grows and exponentially explodes. Here are some logistics that apply to all presentations, whether by handout or a Powerpoint presentation. Here Goes:

Create a questionnaire that every attendee is given before the class starts including a pen. This may sound hokey, but if you spend a few bucks purchasing pens with your office information on it, it will linger within their office or work facility for years and a useful reminder of you, your talk and your solution. This questionnaire includes their information, a check off of physical complaints, if interested in a complimentary evaluation best day of week and time and be sure to have a place for their e-mail address to reach out to them that day or next and in the future.

My previous e-mails discussed how to use e-mails, like this one to keep in touch with your patients and in this case your community. You can also compile a list of e-mail addresses dependent on demographics and send timely e-mails tailored to their work issues keeping the flame of interest alive
