As I have written in previous e-mails, 80% of the nerves that exit your spine are functional just 20% sensory. Just check the chart below and follow the yellow nerves as they exit the spine to various vital organs such as the heart, spleen, kidney, liver, etc. So, it stands to reason that to wait for a sensory nerve to tell you something is wrong, it may be too late. Being proactive with chiropractic care is a great idea to manage spinal balance allowing less pressure on spinal nerves.

I hope you take time to consider the ramification of poor habits and the consequences to your body. Poor eating habits result in weight-gain, nutritional deficits and symptoms related to poor body management. Limited time moving and living a sedentary lifestyle rather than stretching, walking or running has a long term effect on joints and gastric mobility. Negative thinking creates negative outcomes. These all lead to a crisis either overt but more likely subtle having a negative toll on your health and wellness as we age.

As a chiropractor, a member of the healthcare community, I am dedicated to reducing symptoms but more important the reason they exist. If you took a moment to click on some links above, you realized that the body has a miraculous way to heal itself, we just have to reduce any interference, the purpose of the adjustment. Chiropractors call spinal nerve interference a subluxation or pressure on spinal nerves that reduce its potential and the function of peripheral organs it reaches, as well as aggravating a number of sensory nerves.
"BUT IT DOESN'T HURT"
I realize that the majority of chiropractic patients consider chiropractic as a treatment for pain with help via specific adjustments along with lifestyle changes. Following an initial series of treatments relief is usually a given. But patients wise and thoughtful maintain their spinal balance with monthly “maintenance” visits rather than returning in a crisis, they don't wait for it to hurt.

When I adjust you, especially with the Activator or manually with hands, we may be adjusting areas far from where you may have pain. Our goal is to increase spinal balance and reduce subluxations usually not related to areas of pain, allowing the body to heal itself. Most important is to reduce pressure to the functional nerves, the ones that make the body work .. no pain here.

So, what does an adjustment accomplish. As important, prior to the adjustment, is the analysis.  Whether via palpation, using range of motion or as I do the Activator analysis best described as Simon Says, the end result is to determine what levels of spinal stress exist and "adjust" it or reduce pressure to the area and establish paraspinal balance.

So, it doesn't hurt .. Great .. Fantastic .. but there is so much more involved. Share this e-mail with family and friends that may have symptoms as well as those that don't but wish to be and stay well.

If it has been a while since your last adjustment don't wait to schedule a visit call today. If you have never been to a chiropractor, why wait, call our office today and let's begin your journey towards better health and wellness.
